On Parasiting does not operate autonomously. We work within existing bodies temporarily, situationally, in states of (co)dependency and transformation. Our niches include spaces such as ZK/U – Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik, diffrakt – Zentrum für theoretische Peripherie, Make-up – collective run studio, and Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien.
These are not neutral partners but host bodies. We attach to their infrastructures, inhabit their frameworks, and test forms of coexistence between art, theory, and public space. Each niche reshapes the practice and is reshaped in return.
Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik
founded in 2012 in Berlin‑Moabit, is a porous hub where artistic production, research, and urban life interlace. As an artist‑led residency and project platform, it brings together international practitioners to work in sustained engagement with local urban conditions - making visible the social, political, and infrastructural logics that shape the city. ZK/U’s formats and experiments - from OPENHAUS to neighborhood interventions - embody an ethos of co‑invention between artistic research and collective urban practice. This institutional history of engagement, including past experiments like Artist Displacement, provides fertile ground for On Parasiting’s own tactical incursions into farther host systems.
is a self–organised non‑profit project space and studio in Wedding, Berlin: a former joinery transformed into an open laboratory for collective production, performance, neighborhood work, and artistic exploration. As an embedded atelier community, it reframes spatial occupation as both everyday practice and creative infrastructure, resisting institutional formality while generating modes of working and making that exceed conventional frameworks and succeed or fail. This radical proximity to everyday urban life complements On Parasiting’s interest in inhabiting niches, embedding critical practice within lived social space, and experimenting with collective agency beyond disciplinary or bureaucratic containment.
diffrakt - centre for theoretical periphery
is a Berlin-based collective project space and discursive platform exploring the intersections of art, theory, and social practice. Since its founding, it has hosted workshops, discussions, screenings, and performances that blur disciplinary boundaries, fostering collective experimentation and critical reflection. The space operates as a generative periphery - a place to inhabit, intervene, and test ideas - aligning closely with On Parasiting’s approach to tactical, site-specific engagement.
as a public exhibition space in the historic Bethanien complex, the institution brings group and thematic shows in dialogue with pressing social and cultural processes, foregrounding diversity, internationality, and local resonance. Instead of presenting art as autonomous objecthood, the Kunstraum’s programs, accompanied by talks, discussions, and contextual mediation, cultivate moments of encounter and friction between practices and publics. This capacity to hold conceptual complexity within a municipal frame makes the space a crucial terrain for our engagements and tactical collaborations.
